Kindergarten for Syrian refugees in Lebanon (2016-10-01)

Refugee children from Syria face the difficult task of going to school in a different language and culture. The schools in Lebanon are quite different than those in Syria and it is therefore difficult for them to adjust without preparation. This project will send 110 Syrian refugee children from ages 4 to 6 to kindergarten for 9 months to prepare for entry into Lebanese schools. Mobilising, Organising and Empowering Young Refugees in Nairobi (2016-10-01)

This programme will work with 200 young, urban refugees to help them settle in their host community in Nairobi, as well as empower them to be able to support themselves financially. Through the Young Refugees Empowerment Programme (YREP), refugees will be provided with basic literacy training, legal aid clinics, education and life skills training and opportunities for work.

Social Development Centre Café and Shop (2016-10-01)

The Karenni Social Development Center (SDC), based on the Thai/Burma border, will trial a microfinance project that will help the organization generate a small income, and enable the students to learn valuable vocational skills. The SDC will set up a small café and snack shop, built by SDC staff and external labourers and ran by students, where members of the Karenni Refugee Camp #1 community will be able to eat traditional Karenni food.

Karenni Social Development Centre Training (2016-06-01)

The Karenni Social Development Center (SDC), based on the Thai/Burma border, will run a training course for 50 young adults from June 2016 to March 2017. The programme focuses on non-violent social change, environment and law. After finishing the course, some graduates will become mobile trainers, working as activists to spread their new knowledge and skills in the border areas, as well as in Burma, in the Karenni state. Baby Kits and Women’s Health (2016-04-31)

This project will supply Baby Kits which include laundry soap, body soap, baby wraps, clippers and a health message to 8 different sites reaching at least 2,400 mothers and their newborn babies. These kits along with the health message pamphlets will spread valuable information to women who may otherwise not have the knowledge to healthily care for themselves and their babies after birth.

Community prevention education reaches beyond those addicted to their families, friends and neighbors. The work of the DARE network reaches thousands of people in camps on the Thai-Myanmar border and inside Myanmar.
